Somehow in the past we have, by a kind of mutual consent, agreed to give each other a colour code. You can argue about the correctness of the colour classification but we agreed on white, black, brown, even yellow. Why then do we accept it when some people are referred to as “people of colour” meaning non-white? Is that not saying white is kind of pure and different to all other colours? Isn’t saying white is kind of a neutral, implicitly superior colour? Is that not why mixed race children are NEVER classified as white even if 1 parent is 100% white and the other has only a tiny % of non-white blood in them? The children of Meghan & Harry will forever be classified as “people of colour” or black even though they are as white as the desert snow.
Of course, we are all proud of our colour, heritage etc. And if you classify mixed race children as blacks etc, we are very cool and sweet we take care of our own as we should do. Obama will forever be the first black president of the United States. His white mother never existed! He is a person of colour! Is it right in 2020 to still segregate one colour and lump all others together as being “of colour” Why can’t we all be people of colour because we are all people WITH colour? Is this not a way of keeping subtle superiority complex alive in other form?
“I employ people of colour in my organisation” Let the meaning of that sink in a bit. “Biden won the election because of people of colour!” Well he won because all people WITH colour voted for him! You can then break it down as 90% of black people, 60% of white people, 75 % of Latinos (what is their colour code btw. Lol), etc voted for him. Yes he could not have won without the BLACK voters. Black is a colour. So is white. This thing where all non-white colours are lumped together by saying people of colour, is just plain stupid as best and racist at worst. Mic drop!
