Temidayo, one year ago today, on 29 September 2023, your earthly remains were cremated and sent off to eternity. That day, I made a promise to myself, to bring and spread your ashes to all the places we have been together.
It has been a busy year since then! I have been with you to the UK, Germany, Tanzania, Nigeria and several cities in The Netherlands. In all of those places, I have spread your ashes. I have smiled with you as I am spreading your wings, I have recalled some of the good memories and times we have in those places. I have tried to be strong.
But both in Zanzibar and in Zandvoort (oddly both starting with a Z and both with beaches) I have been weak and have cried! I am sorry for that. But I am only human! Our journey together is still not complete. This is just the first part of my journey with you. This week the first part was concluded with your ashes being spread in one of the last spots in my garden where you stood and ate last year. So you are home with me!
This first part takes me from England, to the Feyenoord stadium! It took me from Schiphol to Zanzibar. From Lagos beach to Giethoorn and from Mönchengladbach to Apeldoorn and more! In time, there will be more places we will visit together! Get ready to travel with me!
**This playlist is a diary of the journeys I made with the ashes of my son, Temidayo Olutobi Soewu, whose life tragically ended on Friday 22 September 2023. Dayo’s ashes are being spread in some of the places we went together while he was alive. Spreading his ashes, I hope he spirit will be in those places we both visited forever. I hope to keep honouring and keep alive his memory. Dayo (as he is fondly called by everyone) was born on Sunday 21 June 1993. He was just 30 years old when he died.
